People for the Playa Water Resources Water Fair

On October 18, 2025, Jeff Haozous gave a presentation entitled “Chiricahua Apaches, Children of the Water” at the People for the Playa Water Resources’ first annual water fair. 

People for the Playa Water Resources is a nonprofit organization focused on helping residents in the Willcox Groundwater Basin reestablish their domestic water self-sufficiency as groundwater supplies decline.

Each October, the Amerind Foundation in Dragoon, Arizona, hosts Autumnfest, celebrating the history, culture, and arts of local tribes. In 2024, their focus was Apaches.

Future Activities

Moccasin Making Workshop

April 30 – May 4, 2026: The Heard Museum Community Engagement Department will host a traditional Chiricahua Apache moccasin making workshop at Ndé Bikéeyá.

A relay run from Fort Bowie to the Cochise Stronghold is planned for September 2026. Details to come!
